BEAUTY: Dr Organics Hemp Seed Oil Skin Lotion – Part 1

For a while I’ve been suffering with quite dry skin.  Mostly on my legs and I have failed at finding a way of keeping the moisture over the past few months.  Winter is not my friend!

I’m not sure if this product will improve the situation, but I’m giving it a go – so this blog post will be in two parts!
I purchased the Dr Organics Hemp Seed Oil Skin lotion from Holland and Barratt today (cost £7.59).  The skin lotion was introduced to me by a friend who gave me a little to try.   My initial thoughts….I liked the texture and moisture so thought I would give it a whirl!

So this is just a short blog post this evening (it’s been a long day!) just to say… (Cue the arnie terminator style voice) “I’ll be back” with a full review of my thoughts as to whether I feel this skin lotion lives up to products claims and adds any improvements to my skin.

Have you tried the Dr Organics Hemp Seed Oil skin lotion.  If so I would be interested to hear your thoughts

BEAUTY: Montagne Jeunesse Black Raspberry Body Scrub

Browsing as one does through the beauty section in TKMaxx, I stumbled upon the Montagne Jeunesse Black Raspberry Body Scrub.

I was intrguied to try this product, purely because I only really know this brand for selling an extremely wide range of face masks… In the UK they tend to be found in most good supermarkets and pharmacists …. So at the mere price of £2.99.  I thought I should give it a try as my body scrub supply game is well and truely  lacking.

I’m absolutely in love with the scent of this body scrub.  It definitely smells like raspberries, to be more accurate very much like the ‘Frutella’ brand of sweets.  Not too over powering sweet though, the scent level is just right.

The consistency of the product is extremely thick and creamy (not runny) a little goes a long way.

The grains in the scrub resemble the grains on strawberries however I don’t believe they are as the packaging confirms its ‘jam packed with juicy and sweet Black Raspberries and Grape’.

The body scrub is suitable for vegetarians (vegetarian society approved!) and proudly mentions that it’s cruelty free.  Which is another plus!

This scrub definitely does a greatjob at  removing dead skin cells as my skin is smooth after use.

All in all I like this scrub for the fact that it does what it says, it smells great and, provides me with smooth skin after use.

Have you used Montagne Jeunesse products – which ones are your favourites?

BEAUTY | US BirchBox Revealed!

So what was inside that BirchbBox?

IMG_5301.JPG

Do you even remember what I’m talking about?? Remember that trip to NYC Birchbox store back in November…I bet by now because I have taken so long to share it you probably don’t even care to know?!?

IMG_5302.JPG

Sorry my sarcasm is at an all time high this week!

Well I will share it anyway because there are some good bits I picked worth sharing…

Harvey Prince – perfume, I know perfume samples are love or hate in beauty boxes however I happen to like these I normally throw them in one of my handbags or keep them in my desk at work, they end up being handy to use on those mornings when Im in a frantic hurry and forget to use perfume or when in need for a top up. ‘You had me at ‘Hello’ which I believe is the name of the perfume – a fruity blend of Meyer Lemon, Mandarin, Grapefruit and flowers Forsythia and Plumeria. It’s a very pleasant spring like scent.

IMG_5304.JPG

Ellovi Butter – A lip butter made with just 6 ingredients. I had a read about Ellovi on their website, they pride themselves on making products which contain no synthetic ingredients, preservatives, parabens, or other secret ingredients. It is described as a butter which absolutely lives up to its name as I apply it to my lips it simply melts and provides lasting moisture! Whilst the scent is supposed to be Vanilla to me it smells more chocolately or even honey like which isn’t a bad thing as I’m not usually the biggest fan of vanilla scented items. This is one of my favourite picks!

IMG_5305.JPG

IMG_5306.JPG

Next up …Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Cleanser. I have not tried this yet as my skin has been behaving. However I can tell you this cleanser says it contains blends of organic lemon, cherry and aloe which deeply cleanses the skin and helps prevent blemishes.

IMG_5307.JPG

Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment – I’m not sure of anyone who doesn’t love this line of hair products. I love this stuff, I was so pleased I was able to choose this and didn’t hesitate but to add it to my box. This oil is especially good with sealing in moisture and helping to prevent dry brittle hair – for all hair types- especially in this harshly colder winter!

IMG_5308.JPG

Coastal Scents Palette – This mini sized palette gives four shades from their Revealed 2 eye shadow palette the theme of this palette is called ‘Ballerina’. I have not had chance to use this properly other than a swatch to test out the colours, it’s very similar in colour scheme to the Urban Decay Naked Palette although the colours are not as pigmented and I had to really work the palette to get the colour payoff shown in the pictures, so this palette would probably only be used for occasion wear at work. See below…

IMG_5311.JPG

IMG_5312.JPG

Finally Oribe shampoo and conditioner – being honest I am extremely fussy about what I use in my hair so probably will end up giving this away, as I’m not sure nor do I want to experiment. My feeling is this shampoo and conditioner would be more well suited for naturally straight hair types.

IMG_5303.JPG

All in all quite a good mix of products, except for the Shampoo and Conditioner, which I had to have provided as part of the box and was unable to swap – other than this I am happy with all I had to choose from.

I was so happy to have stumbled upon Birchbox store in NYC, definitely worth a visit again – hopefully soon.

BEAUTY | Barry M Autumnal Nail Paints

Just a quick post tonight to let you know, Barry M cosmetics have brought out some lovely new autumnal colours to their classic nail paint range, so like a wild woman on a mission I hastily took myself to Superdrug and picked up two of them.

If there was a sound to sum up how much I love these too colours it would go something like this “Oooooouuu!” (You can tell I have been learning phonics with my kiddo – right!)

Vintage Violet

Ballerina (featuring kiddo’s ballet shoes aren’t they adorable!)

20141006-193211-70331626.jpg

It really feels like Barry M have upped their game with these nail paints, the formulation whilst it’s a tad on the runny side, it dries with an amazing lasting finish – and it’s the lasting part that has won me over.

I have been able to wear both colours on my finger nails for up to 3 to 4 days with out any major chipping, before it’s time for a refresh.

The price of both nail paints is £2.99, I do hope these two colours stay in the range as right now they are definite favourites for me!

BEAUTY | Fashion Fair Calming Lavender Moisturising Body Set

I’m one of those people who never wins a competition.  Really…. I sincerely mean this, so despite my ‘non winner tendancies’ I still tried my luck at a recent competition held by the brand Fashion Fair on Instagram a few weeks ago….. Call it luck, but …….I won!

The prize I won was the French Riviera Blue – Calming Lavender Moisturising Body Set.

20140924-212046-76846733.jpg

Contained within the package I received the Lavender cream and oil.  Both products came packaged within a very sturdy gift box which has a picture on the front one can only assume is a shot of the French Riviera – perhaps?

The design of the packaging is simple – silver and white, with the actual product held within a round plastic pot container for the cream and a slim bottle for the oil.

The cream consistency is similar to that of whipped cream just a tad thicker, with more muted floral undertones of the lavender scent. The cream applies nice and smoothly to the skin, feels moisturising but not overly so.  This is definitely geared at being the daytime product, as the scent is not to overpowering to be worn throughout the day.

20140924-212112-76872541.jpg

Next is the oil …. which quite frankly is an oil but with a very distinct and powerful scent of Lavender.  I have used this after a bath on damp skin, the oil is extremely moisturising and feels very luxurious.  Lavender is known for aiding calm and inducing restful sleep …..which is exactly what this oil did!

20140924-212145-76905568.jpg

If you don’t know of Fashion Fair, they are a brand synonymous with providing beauty products for women of colour, created by the late Eunice W Johnson.  Fashion Fair produce an extensive range of foundations to concealers to lipsticks etc in all shades.

I have a slightly sentimental connection with Fashion Fair, in that the brand reminds me of my mother. In the late 80’s to early 90’s she used to work for Fashion Fair as an advisor on their beauty counter in a well known department store.  I grew up with the brand in our household and was familiar with what was then the famous pink and gold packaging …. I still have a ‘vintage’ Fashion Fair eye ‘shading’ brush, given to me many years ago by my mother….#Collectors item.

20140924-212213-76933798.jpg

Over the years it has been amazing to see how much Fashior Fair have done to bring their brand presence in line with and still up there amongst other well known high end beauty brands.

If your a woman of colour (or not) and interested in checking out Fashion Fair’s products they can be found in House of Fraser and now in some larger Boots stores.

Have you tried Fashion Fair products? I would love to hear your favourites.

BEAUTY | Weleda White Mallow Face Cream and Lotion

Weleda products are still a firm favourite within my household I have blogged about this here, here and here.

What I love most about Weleda is the ability to use their products in the Baby range and not feel like I’m using a watered down version.

I have recently incorporated one of Weleda’s newest products – the Baby Derma White Mallow face cream into my facial skin care routine.  I received a sample of the White Mallow face cream when I attended the Weleda Insight Day back in June.

I have been using the cream on and off for the past few months, more so as a treatment to soothe sporadic skin irritation that I get, it does a good job of calming my skin down a treat!

20140913-202744-73664023.jpg

20140913-202743-73663208.jpg

The face cream has no scent which isn’t a deal breaker (just something I have become too accustomed to with other products).  The texture of the cream is non oily and non sticky and leaves my skin feeling hydrated after use.

The ingredients found in the cream are natural extracts of White Mallow and Pansy which aid with soothing skin irritations, sesame and coconut oil which provides the nourishing moisture to the skin.

BEAUTY | Boots Beauty Haul

September came with a bang and now were officially in leaf tumbling season, I love this time of year!

I have been taking some quiet time for a few days, to be honest I have been a little preoccupied and consumed with everything going on in the news lately …. (From the issues which have been occurring in Ferguson in the US, to political situations and but not least the plight of Ashya King’s parents and their bid to get their son emergency proton beam radiotherapy treatment to treat his brain tumour!) if I’m honest it’s diverted my attention away from everything style, beauty and sparkle and really got me thinking about lot.  I won’t delve any deeper with my thoughts at this point …

I’m back now!  I feel like I have worked extra hard this week, so on a random lunch break yesterday I took to ‘UK bloggers haven’ on the high street and visited Boots….

20140906-210825-76105883.jpg

Here’s what I picked up:

Collection Extreme liner – £2.99

I’m a big fan of this eyeliner for a few reasons it’s so well priced, it’s cheap and it gives great winged lined eye precision that lasts all day.

20140906-210853-76133193.jpg

Barry M Lip gloss – £4.49 (currently on offer ‘Buy one get one half price’)

I bought shades number 2 which is like sweet toffee in appearance and scent, I also bought the shade number11 which is a coral pink gloss which smells uber tropical on application.  Both glosses for my skin tone give lovely moisturised coverage to the lips.  These lip glosses could pass as possible dupes for the Soap and Glory lip glosses but minus the ‘plumping’ effect.

20140906-210919-76159625.jpg

Natural Collection Bronzer –  £1.99

Now I don’t know about you whilst I’m ready to welcome autumn and winter into my life I’m not quite ready for the change it brings to the appearance of my skin.  I want to keep the glow … You know?!  So I thought a light dab and dusting of a bronzer should be just what will help.  I have not tried this brand before, the swatch leaves a nice light finish which is shimmery but not so much that it looks like I dipped myself in the glitter box in my kiddo’s craft supplies.

20140906-210944-76184965.jpg

Weleda Calendula Lotion (for kiddo) – £5.29 (offer save a 1/3 usually £7.95)

I’m a big fan of Weleda… Read why here.

20140906-211017-76217603.jpg

Weleda Weather Protection cream (for kiddo) – £4.63 (offer save a 1/3 usually £6.95)

Not so much for use right now however in the mid bleak winter, kiddo’s skin can get unbelievably dry.  So I’m confident this cream will give her the much needed hydration and moisture that the skins needs.  Weleda uses only 100% natural ingredients this one again contains Calendula.

20140906-211100-76260214.jpg

Earth Friendly Baby Shampoo and Bodywash (for kiddo) – £2.83 (usually £4.25)

I haven’t used this brand before but when I saw it is made by Lansinoh, it’s won a Mother and Baby gold award, has 99.2% of ingredients from natural origin and 50.1% ingredients from organic farming and not to mention no Parabens, SLS and other nasties it quite obviously won me over!

20140906-211212-76332957.jpg

So that concludes everything I bought, I would love to hear what beauty bits you have recently picked up as I’m always on the look out for new things to try!
