BEAUTY: Aztec Indian Healing Clay

I’ve been like a kid with a new toy this past weekend!  ‘Playing’ with a new beauty product ….I purchased the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay.

So ok, I know, I know I’m LATE to this Bentonite clay party! Don’t judge me…

I have heard great things about this product all over the Internet-web so of course I wanted to give it go myself.
The mask comes packaged in its original powdery state, which whilst I ‘get’ it being that’s it’s a natural product….I had a momentary eye roll moment because I just wanted to get the stuff on my face without the extra faff of sourcing ‘equipment’ to mix up the concoction.

So with glass jar and plastic spoon at hand, a teaspoon of the clay powder I got to mixing this two different ways on two different occasions.

The clay powder mixed with Apple cyder vinegar:

Using the mask powder with Sainsburys Aspinalls cyder vinger, whilst I felt the mask did its job it dries almost at the same rate as your conventional pre mixed mask.  Drying time was about 15-20 mins.  The smell… Somewhat vinegary with a tinge of egg… a tad abnoctious, but doable.

The clay powder mixed with water:

Whoa! Completely difference in how my face felt and how the clay dries.  The mask gets to work instantly with drying and boy oh boy can you feel it!! It almost had for an itchy sensation for a moment.  I could feel it tightening those pores (mwah ha ha ha) which is never a bad thing.  Drying time was about 10 mins.  The smell …. Again that eggy whiff.

With the clay mask used both ways… It definetly lives up to the ‘feel your face pulsate’ claim.  It is the most strangest feeling ever, however more so intense when the clay is mixed with plain water.  I’d say if there’s a reason to buy this mask its for that party trick alone.

So did it make a difference? Yes! I’m pleased to say this is one mask I won’t be turning my back on in a hurry.  My skin feels baby soft after use and the next day is positively glowing.

There are many uses for Bentonite clay – it’s widely known for its healing properties and ability to remove toxins.  There are multiple uses for it, which I’m steadily reading up and learning about.

So lastly to conclude I’m sure you’ve guessed I love this mask, I picked mine up on Amazon for just under £10, however I’m sure it’s also available from most other good beauty web stores.

Have you tried Aztec secret Indian healing clay, if so how have you used it and what where your results?

Feel free to share!

FACE: Mrs Frisbees All Naturals Facial Wash

So Im going to get straight to the point.  I have a love / dislike relationship with the Mrs Frisbees All Naturals Facial Wash.

I have been using this product for little under two weeks now, and purchased it from Amazon at the cost of £8.

However I find that everytime I use the facial wash which has been twice a day…. I either wince or better still hold my breathe momentarily to prevent breathing in the scent.  In my personal opinion it’s just that little bit too over powering and strong almost to the point that I most likely wouldn’t purchase it again despite feeling that the product has been an absolute dream in cleansing and cleaning my face without the stripping feeling.

The product contains roman chamomile and sea buckthorn oil.  Sea buckthorn oil is known from its healing and rejuvenating properties whilst chamomile is known for its calming properties… However I just can’t get passed the scent.  Normally I actually like the scent of chamomile, however with this product it is completely over taken by the sea buckthorn oil!

That said, the product comes nicely packaged.  Dark blue plastic bottle which is great for natural products and helps to reserve their life span, and on the bottom the expiry date is also printed.

Whilst this product didn’t quite suit me, there are others in the range of products by Mrs Frisbees, so maybe in the future I’ll try something else with scents that I much prefer.  I’ll keep using this facial wash (with a washing peg on my nose) until it’s used up – as I don’t believe it waste.

I’d be interested to hear if you have tried any of the other products from Mrs Frisbees range …Are there any that you can recommend?

BEAUTY: Montagne Jeunesse Black Raspberry Body Scrub

Browsing as one does through the beauty section in TKMaxx, I stumbled upon the Montagne Jeunesse Black Raspberry Body Scrub.

I was intrguied to try this product, purely because I only really know this brand for selling an extremely wide range of face masks… In the UK they tend to be found in most good supermarkets and pharmacists …. So at the mere price of £2.99.  I thought I should give it a try as my body scrub supply game is well and truely  lacking.

I’m absolutely in love with the scent of this body scrub.  It definitely smells like raspberries, to be more accurate very much like the ‘Frutella’ brand of sweets.  Not too over powering sweet though, the scent level is just right.

The consistency of the product is extremely thick and creamy (not runny) a little goes a long way.

The grains in the scrub resemble the grains on strawberries however I don’t believe they are as the packaging confirms its ‘jam packed with juicy and sweet Black Raspberries and Grape’.

The body scrub is suitable for vegetarians (vegetarian society approved!) and proudly mentions that it’s cruelty free.  Which is another plus!

This scrub definitely does a greatjob at  removing dead skin cells as my skin is smooth after use.

All in all I like this scrub for the fact that it does what it says, it smells great and, provides me with smooth skin after use.

Have you used Montagne Jeunesse products – which ones are your favourites?

FACE: Sukin Foaming Face Cleanser

Hey, I bet you didn’t think you’d see me here again so quickly.  Like I mentioned in my previous post I’m working on the adjustments needed to allow blogging to become more regular.

So in this post I’m sharing my thoughts on the Sukin Foaming Facial Cleanser which has become a facial skin care staple of mine.

First introduced to me by the lovely people at Balwins.  Once I used the bottle I was originally sent (last year!),  I have been repurchasing this ever since.

It’s a clear gel liquid formula which as the title of the product describes produces a ‘foaming’ consistency when applied with water.

I use this two ways.

When I need to remove a full makeup face, I add the product straight into my hands without water, work into a creamy consistency, add it to my face, work it in, then either wash off with warm water or use a dampened face cloth to gently remove.

On bare faced or minimal make up days, I apply the gel to hands and work it into my already dampned face and then remove with warm water.  Both ways are very effective.
What I love most about this product is the fact that it contains no nasties – look!

Also it’s packaging is very handy in shape.  You are able to get all of the product out without any waste.  Pump bottles tend to be a nuisance so I generally avoid these if I can!

The cost is around £8 – which I think is a reasonable price for a good quality skincare product.

The products ingredients contains Aloe Vera, Chamomile, Green Tea Extract, Witch Hazel, Evening Primrose Oil, Macadamia Oil.

All in all Im happy with this cleanser.  My face is left feeling – most importantly clean, fresh with a non-tightening or stripping feeling.  The scent of the product is non offensive.

Sukin have a full range of products which I’m interested in, however I’m keen to hear if any of you have tried them? Feel free to leave your comments below.

Disclaimer – This post was not sponsored, I was sent a bottle of Sukin Foaming Facial Cleanser by Balwins last year July 2015, with no obligation to write a blog post.  All thoughts and views are my own, the product used in this post was purchased by me as I am a regular user of Sukin Foaming Facial Cleaser which I purchase from Baldwins and other good stockists.

LIFESTYLE: Planning to stay organised

Really! 6 months since my last blog post….

Life has been ….well …. just life.

In an effort to enjoy more of my hobby, my consistency, planning and routine has waned and this is what I need to get better at!

Over the past six months I have found my work and life schedule getting busier and busier with more things to remember…. it came to me what was missing…. my good old trusty Filofax.

In my twenties and for most of my early thirties, I used to use and carry one, for the most part this helped me to stay somewhat organised.

I attempted to resurrect my old battered Filofax ….it had seen better days.

So during a rare, childless Saturday in February, I snagged a Filofax bargain purchase from WHSmith – at the bargainacious  price of £5 – oh yes you heard me!

Over the past few weeks the new Filofax and I have began getting a little more acquainted, I have found tons of planner related videos on YouTube, that I am steadily making my way through and Pintrest has become my new best friend (again).

I really want to stay invested in this new ‘way of life’ so bought myself various planner ‘essentials’ such as – sticky notes, Washi tape and the like to …’spruce up my Filofax’ … as is so fabulously demonstrated via the resources I have seen and watched.

With my new Filofax companion, the plan (pardon the pun) is to build in more consistency by working out my free days outside of familylife , schoolruns, kiddo’s extra activities, impromptu birthday parties, cleaning, cooking, yoga (both home and studio visits), SLEEP! and anything else considered a priority!  I have high hopes that the consistency part of blogging returns over time…

Wish me luck, I have a feeling there will be some adjusting to get things back where they need to be on the blogging front.

Weleda Insight Day 2015

I was invited back to sunny Derbyshire to visit Weleda UK HQ.  Of course there was no way I was going to miss this again as my previous visit was fantastic! You can read more about the here

So rather than flood this post with a whole load of pictures that you may have seen before I have focused this post mainly on the differences of this visit compared to last years and of course the new product launches …So here goes

Weleda insight day 2015!

Weleda had taken on feedback from previous visits so with further ado it was straight on the mini bus to the gardens for a tour.

On this visit we were given the opportunity to take part in plant study.

When developing products Weleda usually carry out a plant study in order to gain inspiration from the lead flower/plant of choice.
The flower of choice this time, for our study was Chamomille.

The first stage of the Plant Study we were told to shake off any negative energy, previous thoughts from your mind and then he headed down to where the chamomile flowers were planted to basically look, touch and smell the flowers … In silence.  This was lovely, and in such a tranquil setting I got to truely appreciate just how beautiful the chamomile flower is, simple yet beautiful….there was a slight breeze in the air on the day so seeing these flowers bobbing around vibrantly was delightful and unbelievably calming at the same time.

Next we were asked to describe how the flower made you feel or what you felt it represented? Words such as ‘relaxing’ ‘sunshine’ and ‘vibrant’ were words shared amongst the group.

Then back to base, where we dissected the flower from the root upwards, placing each leaf on a piece of A3 paper to see how the leaves are formed from the root to the flower.

This plant study gave me a real appreciation for how much effort goes into producing Weleda products – which is truely something special!

Back to the ranch and after being in an abundance of wide open space, we worked up appetite and it was time to eat!

What a generous spread!!! All hand lovingly made by Basilia Deli and Eaterie.

After lunch it was time to hear about the products.

July:

Calendula Nappy Change Cream launches in July. Offer a deeply norishing and restorative cream. The cream contains Rosehip oil which provides improvement to elasticity and moisture. The key ingredients are:

  • Witch Hazel – astringent, cleansing, antiseptic
  • Iris Germanica Root Extract – moisture
  • Jojoba Seed Oil – light and for easy absorption.

August:

In August the Arnica Sport Showr Gel launches. The key ingredient are Arnica, Rosemary Oil and Lavender Oil. The blend of all of these scents is both energising and calming, the gel is also supposed to be non drying to the skin.  I was given a sample to try so I’ll report back soon.

September:

Almond product range for sensitive skin, the products launch in September. No lie, they smell absolutely gorgeous. I have a tendency to suffer from sensitive skin especially when my skin is exposed to too much sunlight and sea water – yes I am a prickly heat sufferer.

So hearing that these products actually balance the skin was a win for me.
We were also given some advice on how to keep sensitive skin at bay:

  • Wearing natural fibres
  • Bathe in warm water
  • Eating a balanced healthy diet
  • Limit sun exposure
  • Limit time in air con and central heating conditions
  • Reduce stress
  • Do something you enjoy
  • Patch tests
  • Avoid over cleaning
  • Use 100% natural products

Weleda kindly gave me a body lotion.  So I will share my personally views on this in a few weeks time.

October:

Ready for Christmas yet?  It’s good to see Weleda really fully embracing the gifting market.  They have expanded the range of pre gift boxes items to include both full and minature sized favorites.  There is something for everyone, prices for the gift boxes range from £5 – £55.

I had a thoroughly enjoyable day, finally it was off to the shop to make some long awaited purchases.  I had been saving myself for this and bought the following items.

Weleda were generous enough to give me the following items below in a goody bag.  If they happen to ready this, thanks again so much and for the hospitality of all the staff!

Goody bag:

Purchased:

Note:  I was not asked to write this blog post, the products gifted to me where in return for my visit.  What more can I say, and you know the drill if I like/love something I blog about it!

BEAUTY | US BirchBox Revealed!

So what was inside that BirchbBox?

IMG_5301.JPG

Do you even remember what I’m talking about?? Remember that trip to NYC Birchbox store back in November…I bet by now because I have taken so long to share it you probably don’t even care to know?!?

IMG_5302.JPG

Sorry my sarcasm is at an all time high this week!

Well I will share it anyway because there are some good bits I picked worth sharing…

Harvey Prince – perfume, I know perfume samples are love or hate in beauty boxes however I happen to like these I normally throw them in one of my handbags or keep them in my desk at work, they end up being handy to use on those mornings when Im in a frantic hurry and forget to use perfume or when in need for a top up. ‘You had me at ‘Hello’ which I believe is the name of the perfume – a fruity blend of Meyer Lemon, Mandarin, Grapefruit and flowers Forsythia and Plumeria. It’s a very pleasant spring like scent.

IMG_5304.JPG

Ellovi Butter – A lip butter made with just 6 ingredients. I had a read about Ellovi on their website, they pride themselves on making products which contain no synthetic ingredients, preservatives, parabens, or other secret ingredients. It is described as a butter which absolutely lives up to its name as I apply it to my lips it simply melts and provides lasting moisture! Whilst the scent is supposed to be Vanilla to me it smells more chocolately or even honey like which isn’t a bad thing as I’m not usually the biggest fan of vanilla scented items. This is one of my favourite picks!

IMG_5305.JPG

IMG_5306.JPG

Next up …Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Cleanser. I have not tried this yet as my skin has been behaving. However I can tell you this cleanser says it contains blends of organic lemon, cherry and aloe which deeply cleanses the skin and helps prevent blemishes.

IMG_5307.JPG

Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment – I’m not sure of anyone who doesn’t love this line of hair products. I love this stuff, I was so pleased I was able to choose this and didn’t hesitate but to add it to my box. This oil is especially good with sealing in moisture and helping to prevent dry brittle hair – for all hair types- especially in this harshly colder winter!

IMG_5308.JPG

Coastal Scents Palette – This mini sized palette gives four shades from their Revealed 2 eye shadow palette the theme of this palette is called ‘Ballerina’. I have not had chance to use this properly other than a swatch to test out the colours, it’s very similar in colour scheme to the Urban Decay Naked Palette although the colours are not as pigmented and I had to really work the palette to get the colour payoff shown in the pictures, so this palette would probably only be used for occasion wear at work. See below…

IMG_5309.JPG

IMG_5310.JPG

IMG_5311.JPG

IMG_5312.JPG

Finally Oribe shampoo and conditioner – being honest I am extremely fussy about what I use in my hair so probably will end up giving this away, as I’m not sure nor do I want to experiment. My feeling is this shampoo and conditioner would be more well suited for naturally straight hair types.

IMG_5303.JPG

All in all quite a good mix of products, except for the Shampoo and Conditioner, which I had to have provided as part of the box and was unable to swap – other than this I am happy with all I had to choose from.

I was so happy to have stumbled upon Birchbox store in NYC, definitely worth a visit again – hopefully soon.
