FACE: Kiehls Midnight Recovery Eye

Change of job. Change in routine. More Travel.  I felt like my skin needed rescuing during the month of August … But more so the tiredness was starting to show around my eye area – fine lines and a generally drier appearance, I know this because of the dreaded undereye concealer creasing I got throughout my days at work etc.

I have recently purchased Kiehls Midnight Recovery Eye to see what ‘repair’ I could do topically, alongside upping my water intake.

I’m pleased with the results!

Actually I’m more than pleased with the results, I often feel it does take time for creams, lotions and potions to adjust to my skin before I see the results.  That being also true because of how skin is constantly renewing and repairing itself.  Personally for me, I feel this eye cream lived up to its claims.
Within days … Yes that’s right days, the fine lines presented more of a softer appearance and the dreaded concealer creasing – See ya!

So the serous bit what’s in this ‘magical’ cream, here’s the product description from the Kiehls website:

Specifically formulated for the delicate under-eye area to achieve fresher, younger looking eyes by morning by reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Formulated with Butcher’s Broom, Squalane, Evening Primrose and Lavender.

Paraben-free, fragrance-free, mineral oil-free.

Now the ingredients:

Water, Helianthus Annuus Seed/Oil/Sunflower Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis Oil/ Jojoba Seed Oil, Prunus Armeniaca Kernel Oil/Apricot Kernel Oil, Squalane, Alcohol Denat., Cetearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Stearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Glucoside, Oenothera Biennis Oil/Evening Primrose Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii Butter/Shea Butter, Lithium Magnesium Sodium Silicate, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin, Xanthan Gum, Ruscus Aculeatus Extract/Ruscus Aculeatus Root Extract, Aloe Barbadensis/Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder, Tocopherol, Lavandula Angustifolia Oil/Lavender Oil, Adenosine, Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Oil/Rosemary Leaf Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Citronellol, Lavandula Hybrida Oil, Geraniol, Linalool, Cucumis Sativus Extract/Cucumber Fruit Extract, Curcuma Longa Extract/Turmeric Root Extract, Curcuma Longa Extract/Turmeric Root Extract, Sclareolide, Rosa SPP/Rose Flower Oil, Jasminum Officinale Extract/Jasmine Extract

So what’s not so good about about the product you ask….?

Ahem….The packaging.

Whilst I love the fact that I’m not dipping my fingers into a pot, just a little squeeze on the tube and a dot of cream is all that is required.

The nozzle on the tube is too narrow(or the one I purchased)  I had to keep fighting with it to get the cream out!

On one attempt I ended up over squeezing the tube and wasting some cream as it projectiled across the other side of the room in a bid for freedom. Seriously.  I then with brute force took to the scissors and snipped the end of the nozzle a couple of times. This did the trick!
All in all I would recommend this eye cream and will definitely repurchase it.   The price tag is fair at £24.50, I purchased mine from SpaceNK.

Kiehls if you ever so happen to read this… Please please make an adjustment to the nozzle on the tube.

Anywho that’s all for now…

Weleda Insight Day 2015

I was invited back to sunny Derbyshire to visit Weleda UK HQ.  Of course there was no way I was going to miss this again as my previous visit was fantastic! You can read more about the here

So rather than flood this post with a whole load of pictures that you may have seen before I have focused this post mainly on the differences of this visit compared to last years and of course the new product launches …So here goes

Weleda insight day 2015!

Weleda had taken on feedback from previous visits so with further ado it was straight on the mini bus to the gardens for a tour.

On this visit we were given the opportunity to take part in plant study.

When developing products Weleda usually carry out a plant study in order to gain inspiration from the lead flower/plant of choice.
The flower of choice this time, for our study was Chamomille.

The first stage of the Plant Study we were told to shake off any negative energy, previous thoughts from your mind and then he headed down to where the chamomile flowers were planted to basically look, touch and smell the flowers … In silence.  This was lovely, and in such a tranquil setting I got to truely appreciate just how beautiful the chamomile flower is, simple yet beautiful….there was a slight breeze in the air on the day so seeing these flowers bobbing around vibrantly was delightful and unbelievably calming at the same time.

Next we were asked to describe how the flower made you feel or what you felt it represented? Words such as ‘relaxing’ ‘sunshine’ and ‘vibrant’ were words shared amongst the group.

Then back to base, where we dissected the flower from the root upwards, placing each leaf on a piece of A3 paper to see how the leaves are formed from the root to the flower.

This plant study gave me a real appreciation for how much effort goes into producing Weleda products – which is truely something special!

Back to the ranch and after being in an abundance of wide open space, we worked up appetite and it was time to eat!

What a generous spread!!! All hand lovingly made by Basilia Deli and Eaterie.

After lunch it was time to hear about the products.

Calendula Nappy Change Cream launches in July. Offer a deeply norishing and restorative cream. The cream contains Rosehip oil which provides improvement to elasticity and moisture. The key ingredients are:

  • Witch Hazel – astringent, cleansing, antiseptic
  • Iris Germanica Root Extract – moisture
  • Jojoba Seed Oil – light and for easy absorption.

In August the Arnica Sport Showr Gel launches. The key ingredient are Arnica, Rosemary Oil and Lavender Oil. The blend of all of these scents is both energising and calming, the gel is also supposed to be non drying to the skin.  I was given a sample to try so I’ll report back soon.

Almond product range for sensitive skin, the products launch in September. No lie, they smell absolutely gorgeous. I have a tendency to suffer from sensitive skin especially when my skin is exposed to too much sunlight and sea water – yes I am a prickly heat sufferer.

So hearing that these products actually balance the skin was a win for me.
We were also given some advice on how to keep sensitive skin at bay:

  • Wearing natural fibres
  • Bathe in warm water
  • Eating a balanced healthy diet
  • Limit sun exposure
  • Limit time in air con and central heating conditions
  • Reduce stress
  • Do something you enjoy
  • Patch tests
  • Avoid over cleaning
  • Use 100% natural products

Weleda kindly gave me a body lotion.  So I will share my personally views on this in a few weeks time.

Ready for Christmas yet?  It’s good to see Weleda really fully embracing the gifting market.  They have expanded the range of pre gift boxes items to include both full and minature sized favorites.  There is something for everyone, prices for the gift boxes range from £5 – £55.

I had a thoroughly enjoyable day, finally it was off to the shop to make some long awaited purchases.  I had been saving myself for this and bought the following items.

Weleda were generous enough to give me the following items below in a goody bag.  If they happen to ready this, thanks again so much and for the hospitality of all the staff!

Goody bag:

Note:  I was not asked to write this blog post, the products gifted to me where in return for my visit.  What more can I say, and you know the drill if I like/love something I blog about it!

BEAUTY: Weleda Men Intensive Cream and Wild Rose Cream Bath – Review

I’m sharing my love for Weleda again! I just can’t help it….

I was invited to the Weleda Insight Day a month or so ago.

As part of the visit attendees were provided with goodies bags, which I have been steadily working my way through the contents of …. And I gave one of the products to ‘the husb’ to use… the Weleda Mens Intensive cream. I casually left the cream on his nightstand not thinking he would even bat an eye lid, open it and USE IT!

‘The husb’ is your run of the mill man’s man, no way is he into trying out new products don’t get me wrong he has his staple items and that’s that. In fact he quite often rolls his eyes at my sheer joy for finding the latest and greatest nail colour, lipstick etc

Not to make a big thing of the momentous event, this evening I asked ‘the husb’ how he was getting on with the cream …

In his words here’s a few snippets from our conversation:

“I’m shocked with the results I didn’t think I would like it”, “Will definitely buy it again”, “Retains face moisture all day”, “I like the sheen that the cream gives to my face”, “the texture of cream is smooth”, “the smell of the cream is nice” and “This might sound weird the cream has a cooling sensation to the skin after I have shaved”

Not weird at all dear… I’d say it’s a miracle!

The cream contains the following natural ingredients:
Witch hazel, white mallow root, jojoba oil, shea butter, cocoa butter.

On Weleda’s website the Men Intensive Cream costs £13.95

Next up is Weleda’s Wild Rose Cream bath.

I love the pretty and comforting smell this gives my bath, in fact my whole bathroom.

This cream bath smells of roses which I think is a divine smell! Ingredients contained are: organic musk rose oil, jojoba and olive oil.

I have opted to using this when I have one of those days where I need to truly unwind, I have found it has this effect of really chilling me out ready for the land of sleep.

The consistency of the cream bath it looks like milk, it doesn’t foam in the bath, it just turns the water a milky white colour.

Instructions on the bottle advise to use 3-4 capfuls, and when we attended the Insight Day we were recommended to add the bath milk to the water after the bath was filled to get full benefit of the scent.

If I remember rightly this launches next month, I have had a look on the website it isn’t listed so unable to share the price.

What are your favourite Weleda products …. I would love to hear your recommendations.

FACE: REN Keep Young and Beautiful ….

Yes we would all love to wouldn’t we?

As a fairly new 30 something mom to a mini-me, early days of sharing your life with your new bundle of joy we are told are “filled with endless sleepless nights”.

For those of you who are yet to experience these sleepless night phases they go like this ….newborn waking 2 – 3 hours, teething (two front teeth or tooth), general illness such as cold/cough, teething (two bottom teeth or tooth), night terrors, I just don’t want to sleep because night time is way more fun mommy, more teething (I can’t see which teeth are coming through…. I could go on but you get the picture. You just don’t get much sleep. I’m not complaining because for all the lack of sleep you get, being a mom has its rewards.

It’s only when I returned back to work though that I noticed just how no sleep and then needing to carry out a full 8-9 hours work the next day and be as human as possible in the office and at meetings really takes it’s toll.

I became a woman possessed to ‘fix’ the under eye lines without surgery. The under eye lines when coupled with my concealer (looked ten times worst) at times looked like I had not blended my concealer properly, and showed awful crease marks.

Then just like magic I found the answer to my prayers…. REN Keep Young and Beautiful Anti-Aging Eye Cream it’s quite a title, it retails for around £26 from most good beauty stores or websites. I picked it up from Space NK and as I have one of their Indulge cards I got £5 off the full price.

This eye cream is a dream to me and with a combination of good diet, plenty of water it has my under eye lines in tact and not looking half as bad they did. The eye cream doesn’t make the lines disappear, but it definitely does soften them when used consistently over time. And because this eye cream does a good job of hydrating and moisturising, your under eyes look refreshed.

Now I won’t lie my mini-me has now progressed to better sleeping patterns which does help.

It has a cream like consistency which is not sticky and sinks into the skin nicely, I gently pat this into the under eye area until all traces of the cream are gone.

The eye cream has no nasties and is free from parabens, sulphites, mineral oil, petroleum, synthetic fragrance, colours … Which is an added benefit!

I’m not sure what else I can tell you about the eye cream other than I love it. Oh the only small downside is the packaging you can’t tell how much cream is in the bottle. I suspect this will last me a while as I’m still on my first bottle… Although I may have to invest in a back up for the day it does run out.

Lastly, eye cream I have found is a very personal thing, this particular cream works for me so I cannot guarantee that you will have the same results and it has been very much a case of trial and error – for instance I tried Eucerin eye cream previously (for me terrible!).

Good diet, staying hydrated with water and sleep in conjunction with using this eye cream has helped me.

Have you stumbled across any eye cream wonders?
